NHL insider Frank Seravalli reported that a trade involving Minnesota Wild Forward Marco Rossi is unlikely to happen this offseason. Rossi has been at the center of discussion this offseason as a trade candidate. The Wild and Rossi remain far apart in contract negotiations and haven’t been in contact in quite some time, according to Michael Russo of The Athletic. Something can brew before training camp, but it looks like Rossi will be with the Wild this upcoming season.
NHL Insider Suggests Vancouver Could Be In On Marco Rossi
Jeff Marek of Daily Faceoff speculated that the Canucks could be a suitor for Rossi if he IS made available. The Canucks need a top-six forward after Dakota Joshua was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs a couple of weeks back. The asking price for Rossi would presumably be high. He is just 23 years old and has established himself as a nice young forward in the NHL.
The Minnesota Wild should attempt to finalize a deal with Rossi. He fits in very well with their system, as their roster has a good mixture of young players and veterans. If the Wild wanted to trade Rossi, the return would be solid and could help them for the future, but that’s only if they elect to do so.
What If the Canucks Want to Trade For Rossi?
The Canucks seem like the perfect fit for Marco Rossi, but, as stated above, they will probably have to part with something that will make them worse to acquire him. Minnesota has all the leverage, given Rossi’s age and the fact that he plays center. If the Canucks want to get aggressive and make a risky move that could look smart if it works out or not smart if it doesn’t, this might be that move. The most likely scenario is that Marco Rossi re-signs in Minnesota, but it would also make sense if Vancouver ends up being interested in him.
