Aaron Rodgers Sets Record Straight on Rumor He's Holding Out for Vikings
The Minnesota Vikings all but slammed the door on signing Aaron Rodgers earlier this offseason, and the free agent quarterback recently addressed rumors that he's holding off his next career decision in hopes that Minnesota rethinks that position.
Rodgers appeared on the Thursday, April 17, edition of ESPN's "Pat McAfee Show," where he made a definitive statement about the Vikings.
"Aaron Rodgers says it is not accurate that he is waiting to see if the Vikings want to sign him later this offseason," Kevin Seifert of ESPN posted to X . "Says he has known Kevin O'Connell since they worked out together in San Diego 17-18 years ago. Says he is focused on issues in his personal life right now."
Rodgers was non-committal as to his plans to either retire or eventually join the Pittsburgh Steelers, who have made him a contract offer. The four-time MVP quarterback said that money isn't an issue, telling McAfee that he would be willing to play somewhere next season for a $10 million salary.
That said, Rodgers is surely going to seek a starting job from day one on a team that can at least compete for a playoff spot. Pittsburgh, which made the playoffs last season, appears to check all those boxes, so it's unclear precisely why Rodgers continues pushing off a decision on joining the franchise.
The Steelers are contenders to select a QB in next week's NFL draft, and could look to do so as early as the first round, where they pick 21st overall.
