Who Is The Golden Bachelor For Season 2?

There has been tons of speculation as to who will be the lead for The Golden Bachelor Season 2. Many fans originally hoped that Mark Anderson would follow Gerry Turner. However, he found love with One Tree Hill alum Barbara Alyn Woods.

Other fans wanted to see either Jonathan Rone or Charles Ling as the follow-up lead for the franchise. As it turns out, none of the men from Joan Vassos’ season of The Golden Bachelorette were named the new lead.

So, if nobody from Joan’s season were chosen, who is the new leading man? ABC announced on Tuesday that former NFL player Mel Owens will be the second-ever Golden Bachelor.

Get To Know The New Lead

Who is Golden Bachelor Mel Owens? The 66-year-old is a former linebacker for the Los Angeles Rams. He played there for nine seasons after being selected ninth in the 1981 NFL draft. He graduated from the University of Michigan before being drafted. When he left the NFL, the Detroit, Michigan, native packed up and moved to Orange County, California, to practice law.

As an attorney, Mel helps clients with sports-related injury lawsuits. Owens also met his first wife while in California. The two went on to have two sons together. He worked hard to raise his sons right and coach all their extracurricular sports teams.

Now, both of his sons are grown and each earned sports scholarships for baseball. They are attending Oklahoma State University and Ohio State University.

Since his children are grown and no longer need him like they did in their younger days, Mel is ready to find the perfect teammate to spend his life with.

Right now, there is no official start date for filming, although applications for the show asked if applicants’ passports were valid through August 2025. So, it sounds like The Golden Bachelor will film this summer.

It was announced on Monday that Bachelor in Paradise will begin filming Season 10 next week in Costa Rica. This means The Golden Bachelor will film sometime after BIP wraps up.

There Has Been Success In The Franchise

The Golden Bachelor and The Golden Bachelorette were both successful at finding love. Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist did find love and actually got married. However, their relationship didn’t last too long. They ended up divorced three short months later.

Joan Vassos found love with Chock Chapple and they did get engaged on the season finale of the show. They are still going strong and enjoying their life together. So far, things are working out great between them.
