Matt LaFleur indicated that veteran corner back Jaire Alexander was just not ready to go yet and won't play in Seattle on Sunday night.
While meeting with reporters after practice on Friday, the Packers head coach said he just hadn't seen enough during the two practices that Alexander participated in to indicate he'd be a full go on Sunday and, in the interest of avoiding another scenario like the defense dealt with in Chicago where Alexander was able to play 10 plays before having to go back out, the team decided to shut him down today.
"You always have a plan. We all knew this could be a possibility, whether he's gonna play or not. I just didn't want to have another situation like Chicago, quite frankly, where you're there for a couple plays," LaFleur said. "It puts a bind on other areas, you put some guys in some tough spots in regards to special teams. Also, you want to get the guys that are gonna have to go play, you wanna get them the reps. That's an important part of it."
The other injury news is much more positive.
Both rookie safety Evan Williams and second year wide receiver Romeo Doubs are out of the NFL's concussion protocol and should be available for the Seahawks game. The Doubs news is especially welcome as he'd been sidelined by this latest concussion since the game against the 49ers nearly three weeks ago.
Another piece of positive news is that rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper will be back for Sunday's game, a welcome development for a team who could desperately use his athleticism to shore up the middle of the field when opponents take to the air.
