The “Dancing with the Stars” co-host had fun in the “spirit tunnel,” but fans wanted more.
Alfonso Ribeiro brought his signature energy to “The Jennifer Hudson Show”, dancing his way down the backstage “spirit tunnel,” which crew members also call the “happy place.” The “America’s Funniest Home Videos” co-host and “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star was on his way to the set when he showcased his smooth footwork, as seen in a clip shared on Instagram. Wearing a bright pink suit, Ribeiro appeared to be in high spirits as he grooved down the hallway, drawing excitement from fans and fellow celebrities. Among those who reacted was his former “Fresh Prince” co-star Will Smith, who left a comment on the video saying, “Don’t hurt ‘em, Alf!!”
Fans Ask for the Carlton Dance, but Ribeiro No Longer Performs It
While fans enjoyed Ribeiro’s moves, many in the Instagram comments were hoping to see his iconic Carlton Dance, made famous during his time on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”.
However, Ribeiro has been vocal in the past about his reluctance to perform the dance on demand. In a 2022 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, he expressed his frustration over fans constantly expecting him to recreate the moment from the 1990s sitcom.
“What makes you think that you just gonna ask a random person to dance for you, and they’re gonna be like ‘Oh my God, I’ve been waiting for you to ask! Hold on a second, let me get into character,’” Ribeiro said. “I don’t get it. It’s not gonna happen.”
Despite this, Ribeiro remains a well-respected figure in dance and entertainment. As a former “Dancing with the Stars” champion and now co-host, he continues to showcase his love for performing in new and exciting ways.
Ribeiro Reflects on His Bond with Will Smith
During his sit-down interview with Jennifer Hudson, Ribeiro also reflected on his longtime friendship with Will Smith. Hudson brought up how Smith once credited Ribeiro with “transforming his life” through his work ethic on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
In a clip from the show, Ribeiro responded by calling it a wonderful moment to hear such high praise from Smith. He described their relationship as a decades-long brotherhood, emphasizing the mutual admiration they’ve shared since their time on set.
Smith later commented on the interview post, writing, “My guy!! Love U brother”, further solidifying their strong bond even years after the sitcom ended.
