Working with your significant other isn’t always easy. Just ask Amanda Batula.
Since 2018, the Summer House cast member has led the Creative and Branding department for Loverboy, the beverage brand founded by her CEO husband, Kyle Cooke. And although her time with the company has been a success, Amanda admitted that working for her hubby came with a unique set of challenges. She addressed her concerns in Summer House Season 8, Episode 12 (May 9, 2024) when she told Kyle she wanted to build her own career identity.
“It’s our dream to be successful, but Loverboy is your thing, it’s your baby,” she explained. “I still want to be involved but maybe there’s something that I did for me that I got to do the branding that embodied me.”
A year after the conversation, Amanda confirmed she was still working with Loverboy but was less involved with the day-to-day operations.
“I think Kyle and I both sort of agreed that it would be great for me to take a step back,” she told The Daily Dish. “Not a full step — I’m not taking a step out. Just a step back.”
Amanda said the decision had been “great for [her] relationship,” as her previous duties would often cause tensions between her and Kyle.
“I think we’re both very passionate about what we do. So we butt heads a lot,” she said. “[Joining Loverboy] was great in a business sense, but not necessarily great for our relationship. So now my involvement is like big-picture stuff. So I’m hands-on on any new flavors, any new product lines, packaging.”
At the time of the interview, Amanda revealed the Loverboy team was developing a new product. She was presumably referring to Flowerboy, a newly launched line of non-alcoholic, THC-infused drinks.
“I had my hands in the flavoring, the naming, the design, the look, the colors — all of that,” she said. “So I’m really directing more. And then letting other people do the day-to-day and do the busy work. So that way, if [Kyle and I] do have any difference of opinions, we have others involved. It’s not so much just him and I. So I’m still in the business. Still in the company. Still on the payroll. Just not the day-to-day busywork.”
In between her Loverboy duties, Amanda has been developing an eponymous swimwear line. The first collection was designed in partnership with South Moon Under and is expected to launch in February.
“I sort of ended up having this food theme, unintentionally, so this first drop is sort of cherry-focused,” she said about her swimwear designs. “It gives that all-American summer sort of feel with reds and whites,” she stated. “The vibe feels kind of old- school and classic. And then as we go forward there are other fruits and vegetables that have inspired the collection.”
Amanda said the first collection will feature “three style tops, three style bottoms,” and one in “two different colorways.” She confirmed the brand will release one-pieces and additional styles down the road.
“We’ll come out with more,” she reassured fans. “But some of them are just taking longer to perfect.”
