Amber Portwood Quits ‘Teen Mom’ Following Rumors That MTV Was Already Planning To Fire Her

Teen Mom' Amber Portwood Says She Quit MTV Series, Denies Firing Rumors

Longtime Teen Mom star Amber Portwood has been all about sharing how she really feels about the reality TV show franchise she’s been a part of for more than a decade, but now, it sounds like that chapter of her life is coming to an end. In her latest social media rant, Amber revealed she quit Teen Mom, even encouraging costar Catelynn Baltierra to do the same.

As The Ashley’s Reality Roundup reported, Amber went live on TikTok on Saturday and revealed that she has walked away from Teen Mom after sharing her story with MTV viewers since the birth of her first child, Leah, was featured on 16 & Pregnant in 2009.

After sharing that she’d officially quit a “few days” earlier, Amber went on to say that MTV is claiming that it’s firing her.

“And now all of a sudden they’re saying they’re going to let me go. You’re gonna let somebody go who doesn’t even work for you? Stupid,” she said. “I’ve been so loyal to them for all of these years because I thought they were a certain way with me and I thought I’d be so happy.”

This bombshell came after rumors that her days on Teen Mom were numbered.

Last week, an MTV insider told The Ashley’s Reality Roundup that it didn’t seem likely Amber would be asked back to film another season.

“To my knowledge she has not been officially let go, though, but she’s basically asking to be fired so it’s doubtful she will continue on,” a source told the site.

But according to Amber, it’s a bigger loss for the network than it is for her, particularly because it won’t have someone to be the “villain” without her. “We’ve given so much to these people and you’re about to sit there and do that to me, and try to act like you’re dropping me?” she said. “Y’all how many times have I tried to leave them?”

She thinks Catelynn should quit the show, too.

During an earlier TikTok live from last week, Amber flipped off longtime costars and close friends Catelynn and Maci Bookout on camera, insinuating that they were part of the problems she’s faced recently. Later, The Ashley reported that Amber told fans on TikTok that her former friends were “pretty angry” at her for it, which led to her apologizing to them publicly.

And now, Amber seems convinced that Catelynn should leave Teen Mom herself. “Run, Cate, run, because it’s only gonna get worse. And they’re not gonna stop. Now that I’m gone, they’re gonna need a villain or something. Or not a villain but some crazy drama,” she said, per The Ashley. “If they start this s— with Cate, I will be livid.”

Amber doesn’t seem too concerned about a future without her MTV paychecks.

Because Teen Mom seemed to be Amber’s main gig, she admitted that she knows she’ll be “poor for a while,” but it sounds like she’s decided the trade-off is worth it.

“I already know, I’ve already been prepared for months,” she said, adding, “I’ve got almost 20 years [on TV] under my belt now. So, I’m not just going to be fading away.”
