The 'Love Island USA' host got candid about the emotional toll this season’s controversies have taken on her and the contestants.
Ariana Madix is opening up about the controversies plaguing Love Island USA season 7.
After watching a video of the season 7 islanders thanking her for her work this season, Madix fought back tears while discussing the backlash facing this year's contestants.
"It's been a really tough season for a lot of reasons," Madix admitted during an emotional interview with Maura Higgins on Love Island USA: Aftersun on Saturday, July 12.
Madix's statement comes shortly after the second islander this season was removed from the villa due to a racism scandal. Last week, Cierra Ortega left the villa after Instagram posts surfaced of her using an anti-Asian slur, for which she has since issued a public apology. Earlier in the season, Yulissa Escobar was ousted after podcast clips surfaced of her using the n-word multiple times, and she also has apologized for her actions.
"The islanders who were eliminated, there's been a lot of stuff that's just been crazy," Madix continued. "I just want them to know, and any islander who has also left the villa this point, I just want them all to know how much I genuinely really love them and appreciate them for putting themselves out there."
"[The islanders] gas me up when I come in [to the villa] because I always hope that I get to bring good news but sometimes I'm the Glam Reaper." Madix added.
When Higgins assured the Love Island USA host that it's obvious that the islanders "absolutely adore" her, Ariana replied: "The feeling is mutual."
Earlier on Saturday, Love Island USAreleased a statement on Instagram asking fans to show "respect and kindness" to Madix and all of the season 7 islanders ahead of the finale on Sunday, July 13.
"Huge thanks to everyone who has joined us for Love Island USA season 7," the statement began. "We can't wait to celebrate our incredible islanders in tomorrow night's finale."
"Love Island exists because of the real people who share their search for love with the world. Our host and all islanders deserve respect and kindness for opening their hearts to the experience and viewers everywhere," the statement continued. "As this season comes to a close, let's show them our love and support."
