The Golden Bachelorette is nearing its finale, but an arrogant Chock Chapple is acting like he has already won Joan Vassos' heart. 61-year-old Joan isn't new to looking for love on national television, as she made her television debut during The Golden Bachelor season 1. She was one of the 22 single women who traveled to The Bachelor mansion to date 72-year-old retired widower Gerry Turner. Though Joan had a family emergency and had to leave the season early, she left a big impression and was ultimately cast as the spin-off's first female lead.
The highly anticipated premiere of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 opened with Joan meeting the 24 single The Golden Bachelorette men who'd be competing for her heart. Among the men was Chock, a 60-year-old insurance executive from Wichita, Kansas. Joan and Chock had instant chemistry, and he received her first solo date, which ended in a romantic kiss. With the finale just around the corner, Joan narrowed her options down to two men, but an overly confident Chock had been acting like he had already won. For weeks, Chock displayed an arrogant possessiveness, and it may be a red flag.
Chock Is Possessive Of Joan
He Acts Like He's Already Her Man
During an earlier The Golden Bachelorette season 1 episode, Joan took several of the men on a group date to a bowling alley. This was back when there were still a lot more men in the game, so it was a fairly large group of six men, including Chock. Most of the men seemed to have a great time, but it was clear Chock didn't like sharing Joan. His last date with Joan had been a solo date to Disneyland, so he wasn't accustomed to having to share Joan in a group setting.
He spent the entire date sitting close to Joan, with an arm around her, acting as if she was his property. It was disrespectful to the other men, but Chock didn't seem to notice or care. While the other men of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 got along well throughout the season, Chock always seemed like the lone wolf or the odd man out. From the moment he set foot in the mansion, Chock made it clear that he was on the show to win.
Joan Loves Chock's Confidence
He Reminds Her Of Her Late Husband
While the men of The Golden Bachelorette season 1 didn't like seeing Chock be so possessive of Joan, she seemed to respond to it well. Confidence can be a very attractive trait in a man, and it certainly seemed to be working with Joan. Before she was casted as the show's lead, Joan had been married to John Vassos for 32 years, and they had four children together before he passed away in 2021. She has described John as being confident, so it's obvious Chock reminds her of her late husband.
Like Joan, Chock knows what it's like to lose a partner.
After his 12-year marriage to Heather Chapple ended, Chock dated Katherine Elizabeth White Goree. They were engaged for nine years before she passed away in 2022 after a brief battle with cancer. During his first solo date with Joan, Chock spoke about his late fiancée, even telling Joan losing Heather was the most devastating loss of his life. Chock then suffered another loss when his mother passed away while filming The Golden Bachelorette. He left to be with his family but rushed back for Joan as soon as he could.
Does Chock Chapple Win?
He Sure Thinks So
Expectations are high for The Golden Bachelorette couple, especially after the epic failure of the first The Golden Bachelor marriage. With The Golden Bachelorette season 1 nearing its conclusion, Joan will soon be handing out her final rose, and she could be giving it to Chock. After the shocking self-elimination of 69-year-old Pascal Ibgui, it's between Chock and 66-year-old Guy Gansert. With The Golden Bachelorette season 1 finale just around the corner, an arrogant Chock is acting like he has already won Joan's final rose and her heart.
The Golden Bachelorette airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
