Baker Mayfield Reveals Offensive 'Luxury' For Buccaneers

It is no secret that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense has weapons all over the field, and Baker Mayfield might just be set to have a better year than he did last season.

With weapons we think are the envy of the league, offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard will be under pressure to keep this Ferrari on the road and not crash it into a ditch.

Baker Mayfield Reveals Offensive 'Luxury' For Buccaneers

For Mayfield, yes, the receiving threat of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, and Emaeka Egbuka is huge, but he's detailed how the receiving ability of both Bucky Irving and Rachaad White might be the offense's biggest weapon.

“Obviously it's a luxury for us on offense,” Mayfield said. “Especially where they're in pass protection knowledge of who they're supposed to pick up and the more they learn and Rachaad's been really good at it and year one for Bucky [Iving], the more comfortable he gets in that they get out of the pass protection stuff quicker if they don't have anybody to pick up and they become just that free outlet.

"With those guys, obviously they can catch like receivers, but just getting the ball with them in space is ideal for us, whether it's screen game, checkdowns, or design pass plays for them. So, it's a luxury for us because it creates mismatches.”

Last season, while Irving and White rushed for a combined 1,735 yards and 11 touchdowns, it was their ability to be pass-catching options out of the backfield that perhaps went under the radar.

Irving posted 392 yards from 47 receptions, and White totaled 393 yards and six touchdowns from 51 receptions, so combined, that is 785 receiving yards from the pair, which is a good return.

Now expected to be improved in that area, it is just another thread Grizzard can pull in the passing game to complement the weapons on the field.

The Buccaneers having so many receiving weapons is a luxury, but when you then throw in two running backs who can also be targets, it gives Tampa Bay an embarrassment of riches entering the 2025 season.
