Baker Mayfield's Bucs Sign New QB Prospect

The 2025 NFL Draft has come to a close, and teams are starting to pick up players that were not drafted and add them as depth pieces.

Per a report by NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are signing former Bowling Green quarterback Connor Bazelak. This will give the team more depth under center. ... or, at least, another training camp arm.

Baker Mayfield's Bucs Sign New QB Prospect

The Buccaneers obviously already have their franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield, but it is always good to have guys that can come in and get the job done if Mayfield were to ever go down for any reason - so Tampa Bay is smart to throw a dart here.

Bazelak ended his final season at Bowling Green with 3,044 passing yards on 66.9 percent completion, both of which led the Mid-American Conference, as well as 18 touchdowns. He was also able to limit turnovers by only throwing five interceptions in 402 passing attempts.

The Buccaneers already have some guys to back up Mayfield, including Kyle Trask, who has been with the team since they drafted him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. But it is never a bad thing to have more guys to back up your franchise quarterback, especially one like Mayfield who tends to run very aggressively when he gets outside of the pocket.

The Buccaneers will be hoping they do not have to use Bazelak in that kind of scenario. Instead, they will be hoping he can develop and learn under Mayfield until he possibly becomes a very solid NFL QB down the road.
