Bill Belichick, arguably the greatest NFL coach of all time, has sent a very clear message to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Much to NFL fans displeasure, it is a repeat of the 2023 Superbowl with the Eagles going up against the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday.
The Eagles will have a huge challenge on their hands aiming to stop the Chiefs ‘three-peat’, and they have to deal with Patrick Mahomes whose playoff stats show he is one of the GOATS.
Philadelphia do have weapons of their own. Their offensive contingent led by Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley should cause the Chiefs defense problems. Barkley is just one of five players to rush for 2,000 yards in the last 25 years.
Belichick gave the Eagles a simple message ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Bill Belichick says Philadelphia Eagles must play their best football in fourth quarter
Speaking on The Pat McAfee show, Belichick was asked if he was preparing against the Chiefs this Superbowl, what would be his message to the team, he said: “What I would say to the Eagles this week is you have to play your best football in the fourth quarter.
“They have been so good in one-score games, they find a way to win. Whether it is blocking a kick against Denver, blocking a kick at the end of the Houston game which would have made it a one score game.
“Whether it’s making stop on defense, last-drive field goals or overtime touchdowns like they did in the Superbowl last year…
“The Superbowl is won by the team who plays the best, [For the players] it’s not how many pro-bowls you have made or what your salary is, it is how you play in that game.
“They just make the plays they need to make in order to win, and you better play your best football in the fourth quarter because they’re a well balanced team that can do it in all three phases”
The Eagles journey to Superbowl LIX
The Eagles finished the 2024 regular season with a 14-3 record and won the NFC East division. The record was not quite good enough for the number one seed in the NFC, that went to the Detroit Lions and their 15-2 record.
Philadelphia would beat the Green Bay Packers 22-10 in the Wildcard round, and then go on to beat the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 in the divisional round.
