The Cleveland Browns and superstar edge rusher Myles Garrett are involved in a game of high-stakes Employment Poker
And the Buffalo Bills apparently want a seat at the table.
The Bills took a massive swing at a superstar defender in 2022 when they signed Von Miller to a six-year, $120 million contract. ... with the hopes that the MVP of Super Bowl 50 could bring Buffalo to that same peak.
That never quite happened.
So ... let's try it again!
The 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett has requested a trade from the Browns, wanting to play for a contender - and he has even said "no thank you'' to the Browns' invitation to discuss a more lucrative contract.
At 29, and feeling like Cleveland is a non-contender (again) ... he is serious about wanting out.
And according to reporter Tony Pauline, the Bills want in and willing to make an offer for Garrett.
”I’m told the Bills will also put in a bid for Myles Garrett,'' Pauline said.
Garrett, the No. 1 overall pick from the 2017 NFL Draft, had a career-high and NFL-leading 22 tackles-for-loss this season, paired with his 14 sacks.
Garrett has recorded double-digit sacks and tackles-for-loss in the last seven NFL seasons.
The six-time Pro Bowler and four-time All Pro does have some foot issues that would need medical clearance, we would think, from his next team.
And there are other issues, including the trade price and a possible desire for an extention.
In Buffalo, Garrett would be joining a defense that was 11th in the NFL in fewest-points allowed, and lost a tightly contested AFC Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs, 32-29.
As good as the Bills defense was this year, no player had double-digit sacks, and only Gregory Rousseau had double-digit tackles-for-loss, with 16, to go along with a team-leading eight sacks.
Rousseau and Garrett would immediately become one of the premiere edge-rushing duos. ... all adding up to the idea of a bid at the poker table being merited.
