Former Oregon Duck and current Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix had a productive performance against the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night, recording multiple highlight plays while silencing doubts about his downfield passing game.
During the fourth quarterback of the Broncos' back-and-forth loss at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, Nix dropped back and fired a 51-yard touchdown pass to Marvin Mims to knot the score at 17 with 8:48 left to play.
As Mims reeled-in the pass in the back of the end zone, the ball traveled a total of 64 yards through the air, the longest in the NFL this season.
It was a prove-it moment for Nix, who had previously faced doubts surrounding his downfield passing abilities at Oregon and in the NFL.
"Bo Nix try to throw the ball more than 10 yards challenge *IMPOSSIBLE*," @zayflowersgoat wrote on X, formerly Twitter, Saturday.
Following Nix's deep throw to Mims, Oregon fans were quick to call out the doubters. Another user on X, @69sco_, quoted @zayflowersgoat's original post with a video of the 51-yard touchdown connection.
"Does this count?" @69sco_ wrote.
Later in the game, Nix also found Mims for a game-tying, 25-yard touchdown with just eight seconds left to play. He finished the contest with 219 passing yards, three touchdowns and just one interception.
As of Sunday morning, Nix is third in offensive rookie of the year odds at +3500 according to Caeser's Sportsbook.
The former Oregon quarterback will be in action again as the Broncos host Kansas City on Sunday, Jan. 5.
