Bob Arum Names The Current Fighter Who Is Better Than Muhammad Ali And Mayweather: “He’s The GOAT”

Ali transcended the sport in the 60s and 70s, with his actions both inside and outside the ring helping to illustrate exactly why he was known as ‘The Greatest.’

Mayweather, Tyson, Fury, Ali, Canelo: 100 greatest boxers of all time ranked

He is the only three-time lineal heavyweight champion in history and was involved in some of the most historic fights of all time, including the ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ against George Foreman and the ‘Thrilla in Manila’ against Joe Frazier.

While Ali was the star attraction 50 years ago, Mayweather then became the biggest name in the sport in the 2000s and 2010s, as he worked his way up into becoming the biggest pay-per-view draw in boxing.

He became a five-weight world champion and defeated some iconic names like Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez, culminating in Mayweather retiring in 2017 with a perfect record of 50-0.

One man who worked with both Ali and Mayweather was legendary promoter Bob Arum, who at 93-years-old still shows no signs of slowing down.

The Top Rank CEO has been involved in the sport for over half of a century and has worked with nearly every big name who has ever laced up the gloves, but he recently told Jai McAllister that he believes current world champion Naoya Inoue is the best he’s ever seen.

“Inoue is not only pound-for-pound the best in the world, Inoue is the best fighter I’ve ever seen, no matter what weight category or anything.

I have never ever in the almost 60-years I’ve been in boxing seen anything like Inoue.”

Inoue is the reigning undisputed super-bantamweight champion, and has also claimed world honours at light flyweight, super-flyweight and bantamweight during his career.

While Arum may wax lyrical about the achievements of Inoue, another promoter seems to disagree, after Eddie Hearn claimed that the Japanese star should be removed from the pound-for-pound rankings.
