The Denver Broncos exceeded expectations with a playoff appearance under coach Sean Payton and rookie quarterback Bo Nix last season, adding to expectations in the Mile High City this coming year.
The Broncos got just four yards on two catches from contributing tight ends Adam Trautman and Lucas Krull during their 31-7 road loss to Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills in Orchard Park, New York, shining a spotlight on an area of the team that could use a drastic improvement.
Recently, the Broncos' potential selection at number 20 in the 2025 NFL Draft was revealed in the latest Pro Football Focus mock draft, a tight end who has been compared to Kansas City Chiefs superstar Travis Kelce.
Writer Trevor Sikkema mocked Loveland to Payton's Broncos at pick 20. Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh once called Loveland the Michigan Wolverines' "version of Travis Kelce," calling him "that kind of superstar player."
A Broncos selection of Loveland would keep him from being taken by Harbaugh's division rival team.
"Loveland to the Broncos is becoming a common mock draft pairing," Sikkema wrote.
"Not only are the Broncos looking to improve their passing weapons overall, but specifically, they could use more production from the tight end spot.
"Loveland will likely be more of a slot type of tight end than a true inline player, but that also leans into what the Broncos could want in Sean Payton's offense, which has a history of getting a lot of production out of receiving tight ends," including Jimmy Graham and Jeremy Shockey when Shockey won the Super Bowl with Payton's Saints in 2009.
Loveland had 56 catches for 582 yards and five touchdowns in an injury shortened junior campaign with the Wolverines last season.
