Broncos Could Shake Things Up With Astonishing Trade

The Denver Broncos were one of the biggest surprises in the NFL this past season, winning 10 games and making the playoffs against all odds.

Broncos Could Shake Things Up With Astonishing Trade

While the Broncos definitely showed considerable improvement in 2024, they still have not officially arrived, as they have plenty of work to do in order to reach the next level in the AFC.

One thing Denver absolutely needs to do is acquire more weapons for quarterback Bo Nix, who enjoyed a spectacular rookie campaign. They did sign tight end Evan Engram, but they also must bring in another wide receiver or two for Nix.

Right now, Courtland Sutton represents the Broncos’ only proven player at the receiver position, so you would think Denver would be intent on supplementing Sutton with some help in the receiving corps.

However, Lou Scataglia of Predominantly Orange has offered a shocking suggestion for the Broncos: trading Sutton. He notes that Sutton may want too much money, which could result in Denver attempting to move the veteran pass-catcher.

“Sutton has popped up in trade talks here and there with the Broncos in recent years, and being that he turns 30 years on this coming season, his potential value in a trade is only going down,” Scataglia wrote. “With the major WR contracts that have happened recently, Sutton might end up wanting too much on an extension that the Broncos are willing to pay.”

Scataglia certainly makes a salient point, as Sutton is aging and is probably at the peak of his powers right now. This past season, he hauled in 81 receptions for 1,081 yards and eight touchdowns, marking his first 1,000-yard campaign since 2019.

But in order for Denver to do this, it would have to have some sort of foolproof backup plan. The last thing the Broncos want to do is make things more difficult for Nix, who relied on Sutton an awful lot in Year 1.

How much, you ask? Well, the Broncos’ second-leading wide out in 2024 was Marvin Mims, who totaled 501 yards on 39 catches. Mims is renowned for his special teams prowess, but he hasn’t proven to be anything more than an auxiliary option in the passing game thus far.

Chances are, Denver will be holding onto Sutton for the time being. It will be interesting to see if any serious trade offers come in, though.
