The Denver Broncos made a lot of key additions during the offseason. But the addition of safety Talanoa Hufanga from the San Francisco 49ers hasn't garnered the same attention as the addition of fellow 49er-turned-Bronco Dre Greenlaw.
After both signed with the Broncos, Hufanga and Greenlaw discussed what being a part of the Broncos will be like. In an interview with Bennie Fowler of DNVR, Hufanga went into detail about that conversation and how both look forward to playing with Bo Nix.
"Even talking to Dre [Greenlaw], he was my locker partner at the '9ers and then we came here together, we were like, 'Man, when you got a quarterback that can go out there and really play, as a defense, you know it's not just three and out.' There are a lot of teams like that in the NFL. So for us, it's like, 'We got potential here. Why can't we come over here and help change? He's [Nix] the reason."
From Hufanga's quote, the main reason he signed with the Broncos was the presence of Nix at quarterback. Having a good quarterback was important to both Hufanga and Greenlaw in free agency, and both decided to go to the Broncos.
After years of bouncing between quarterbacks after Peyton Manning, the Broncos have seemingly found their next franchise quarterback. Not only is Nix giving the Broncos hope on the field, but his presence is also enticing for free agents.
The quote from Hufanga is especially noteworthy since he came from the 49ers, who have Brock Purdy, and have been one of the better teams in the NFL for the past four seasons. Choosing to leave the 49ers and go to the Broncos is a sign that Hufanga believes in Nix as much, or more, than Purdy.
That's incredibly high praise for Nix, especially coming off just one year in the NFL. Nix has been everything the Broncos hope for and more, as he's not just playing at a high level, he's also catching the interest of free agents.
Both Hufanga and Greenlaw came from a successful organization in the 49ers, and their decision to leave and come to Denver lies largely in part due to Nix.
