The Denver Broncos are Bo Nix’s team.
The Broncos made it through their offseason program and are on a break until training camp. There is a lot of time until then, but they can enter the break encouraged by how the second-year quarterback continues to develop.
Selected in the first round of the 2024 draft and coming off a record-setting rookie season, Nix’s upward trajectory is unsurprising.
Still, Nix’s physical appearance has garnered attention, with the QB looking bulked up.
“Bo Nix looks like he packed on some muscle mass this offseason,” Mile High Sports’ Cody Roark posted on X on June 10, the first day of the Broncos’ three-day mandatory minicamp. “Still has same explosive burst as a runner too.”
Bo Nix looks like he packed on some muscle mass this offseason. Still has same explosive burst as a runner too.
However, his growth between plays has also drawn attention this offseason.
“A takeaway from the offseason program: Bo Nix appears to be talking more smack to the Broncos’ D this year,” DNVR Broncos’ Zac Stevens posted on X on June 14, two days after the conclusion of the team’s mandatory minicamp.
Stevens cited veteran safety Brandon Jones, who is also entering his second season with the Broncos, who said “I love” that Nix has shown the “dawg” in him this offseason.
Nix completed 66.3% of his passes for 3,775 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
He led rookie QBs in passing attempts, completions, yards, and touchdowns. He ranked third among rookie starters in completion percentage and appears primed to take a significant leap forward in 2025.
Coaches Tout Bo Nix’s On-Field Development

The Broncos coaching staff has also praised Nix’s development, which the QB admitted was worlds different compared to the start of the offseason program last year.
Broncos offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi said one can “feel the comfort level” from Nix.
“He’s not thinking as much when you give him the play. He can get in and out of the huddle with a lot more comfort,” Lombardi told reporters on June 11. “He can just kind of play free and natural, and you can certainly sense that out here.”

Lombardi’s sentiments echo those of Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who also noted Nix’s elusiveness.
“Less pause, less hesitation with the play call, in the huddle. Less pause, less hesitation in the pocket. He’s playing fast and, again, protecting the ball,” Payton told reporters on June 12. “He’s hard to sack. He was hard to sack in college. So, you’re seeing him play faster [and] with more confidence.”
Nix and the Broncos won 10 games and made the playoffs in 2024 and could be better in 2025.
Bo Nix Believes Broncos ‘In Good Spot’

Nix’s improvement is encouraging, and the second-year passer was proud of his development this offseason.
“It’s a lot more enjoyable not thinking right now as opposed to what I was doing last year,” Nix told reporters in May. “It’s fun to be in the know, it’s fun to have a little bit more of an understanding of what’s going on.
“I feel good. We’re in a good spot.”
“He’s got that hates-to-lose-more-than-loves-to-win thing, which is really powerful in a professional athlete.”

The Broncos went 1-6 in one-score games and 303 in the division, with some losses coming on special teams gaffes, defensive letdowns, or the lack of a running game, all of which were addressed this offseason.
Two more wins could earn a more favorable matchup in the playoffs.
It could take several more wins to overtake Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the division, but it is not unimaginable.
