Broncos rookie makes statement with placement in NFL Top 100 list

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix made his debut on the NFL’s Top 100 list at No. 64. This ranking has drawn some attention for placing him ahead of more seasoned quarterbacks like Dak Prescott, Tua Tagovailoa and Jordan Love. Still, the placement gives recognition to a spectacular rookie season for the Broncos quarterback.

Under Sean Payton’s coaching, Nix evolved from a slow start to begin the season. Nix racked up 3,775 passing yards and 29 touchdowns with a 66.3% completion rate, in addition to 430 rushing yards. He led the Broncos to a 10-7 record and the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2015.

Nix became the first Denver quarterback since Peyton Manning in 2015 to make the list. Once Manning retired, the Broncos have gone through multiple starters who have all failed to get the job done. Whether it was Paxton Lynch, Case Keenum or Russell Wilson, none of them were able to touch the success that Nix achieved in his rookie season.

Notably, Nix was voted ahead of Love (No. 68), Prescott (No. 79), and Tagovailoa (No. 91) in the Top 100 list. It is tempting to question whether Nix is actually already a better player, but it is also important to add context to the other rankings.

Prescott and Tagovailoa suffered long-term injuries in 2024, and Love’s production was shaky after his early-season injury. It is possible that these circumstances may have skewed perceptions among voting peers.

With all that said, Nix’s placement is a testament to how the league already perceives the young QB. The NFL Top 100 ranks the best players of the previous season, and to already be placed on the list is a huge accomplishment.

The future is bright not only for Nix but also for the Broncos, who are widely expected to take a huge step forward in 2025. Whether the team does so or not, one thing is very clear: Nix is the sheriff in Broncos country now.
