Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Drops 2-Word Message on QB Battle

Shedeur Sanders NFL Draft 2025 Scouting Report for Cleveland Browns QB

Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders helped host a youth football camp this week, and the young players didn’t hold back from asking the big question on everyone’s mind — will he be the starter?

Since arriving in Cleveland, Sanders has made an impact in the community, particularly with the local youth. During the camp, a group of kids took their shot at getting some inside information on the team’s quarterback competition.

“Are you starting or is Joe Flacco starting?” one asked.

Everyone wants to know when Shedeur is going to start 😂😂😂😂

Sanders smiled and gave an honest answer: “Nobody knows.”

It’s an honest answer from Sanders and the truth. The Browns have not given any signals on what direction they’re leaning at quarterback, saying Sanders, Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel are all still in the running. And coach Kevin Stefanski doesn’t sound eager to establish a depth chart any time soon.

“We’re so far away from that type of thought process,” Stefanski said during minicamp. “Honestly, we’re in our installation phase. It’s the offseason, it’s OTAs. So we’re going to keep the focus there. Once you get into training camp, of course you’re getting ready to play games and ultimately getting ready for playing the season. But right now that’s not our focus.”

Shedeur Sanders Making Point to Impact Community

Sanders has made it a priority to connect with the Cleveland community. Shortly after his disappointing draft slide, he visited a local high school, answering questions from young fans eager to meet him.

“It’s important for my own happiness,” Sanders said. “It makes me happy because I’m able to connect with people, connect with human beings. … If you live in a world of social media, you are gonna think very negatively, and this for all athletes. You’ll think very negatively about yourself or you’ll feel too high up. Because that’s how media is. You either gonna be high up or they’re gonna tear you down. One of the two, no in between.”

Sanders has garnered positive reviews for his demeanor and work ethic so far with the Browns, helping to put much of the pre-draft criticism behind him.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Not Making Excuses

Sanders has been essentially functioning as the No. 4 quarterback. He’s been getting his reps in, but has worked almost exclusively with backups and against them. But the former Colorado star is not making any excuses.

“Life is just based on how you view different things,” Sanders said. “So you can view things as you’re not getting reps in a negative way or you can view it as, OK, when it’s my time to get out there, let’s be proactive and let’s get warm, let’s get going.

“There’s no excuses because when you get out there, nobody cares how many reps you got whenever you get in the game. Nobody cares if you took a snap before. Everybody cares about production. So that’s the main thing when you get out there: You got to be able to produce.”

The Browns will gather in July for training camp, with the team’s first preseason tilt scheduled for Aug. 8 against the Carolina Panthers.
