Former NFL offensive lineman and current media analyst Ross Tucker delivered a scathing assessment of Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders over his recent speeding tickets.
Reports emerged last week that Sanders was cited for driving over 100 miles per hour, less than two weeks after receiving another speeding ticket.
“Last week when it came out that he got his speeding ticket, I said it’s not really that big a deal. I feel very differently about it now,” Tucker said on his podcast. “The logic or the mindset to have gotten a speeding ticket and then less than two weeks later, you’re driving over 100 mph?
“I don’t know if that’s entitlement or immaturity…”
“There’s got to be some teams that are feeling very good right now that they didn’t draft him…”
@RossTuckerNFL on Shedeur Sanders receiving two speeding tickets and a failure to appear in court, in a two-week span:
“I don’t know if that’s entitlement or immaturity. There’s got to be some teams that are feeling very good right now that they didn’t draft him. I can’t even wrap my head around that. You get pulled over for speeding, I don’t understand the failure to appear thing, the court appearance thing, but then you go over 100 miles an hour less than two weeks later?”
Sanders, who was drafted by the Browns in the fifth round this year after sliding down draft boards in part due to character concerns, was already facing scrutiny as he tries to climb the depth chart in a crowded quarterback room that includes veteran Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. The latest off-field incident has only intensified questions about his maturity and decision-making.
Tucker: Sanders Should Have Learned From Mistakes
Due to the missteps, Tucker is uncertain if Sanders has what it takes to be a franchise quarterback at the next level.
“Listen, there are definitely franchise quarterbacks that have had success after making mistakes like this, but not many,” Tucker said. “Not many that have the mindset, whatever that is, to do something like this twice in that short of a timeframe, to not learn from the mistake two weeks earlier. It’s honestly like mind-boggling to me.”
Sanders spoke briefly about the incidents while appearing in a social media video at David Njoku’s celebrity softball game.
“I’ve made some wrong choices, personally, I can own up to them,” Sanders said. “I’ve made some not great choices. I learn from it.”

The Browns have not commented publicly to indicate any further punishment. However, the team did say that Sanders told them he had taken care of both tickets.
Shedeur Sanders Not Fazed by Lack of Reps With Browns
Sanders has struggled to earn significant reps so far, with head coach Kevin Stefanski noting that the quarterback competition remains open heading into training camp next month.
Sanders has functioned as the No. 4 quarterback, working almost exclusively with and against backups. But he hasn’t let it faze him.
“Life is just based on how you view different things,” Sanders said Tuesday after the Browns’ first mandatory minicamp practice. “So you can view things as you’re not getting reps in a negative way or you can view it as, OK, when it’s my time to get out there, let’s be proactive and let’s get warm, let’s get going.
“So, there’s no excuses because when you get out there, nobody cares how many reps you got whenever you get in the game. Nobody cares if you took a snap before. Everybody cares about production. So that’s the main thing when you get out there: You got to be able to produce.”
Sanders will get another chance to show his talent during training camp, which kicks off in late July. He’ll likely see some significant time in the preseason games, which rev up on Aug. 8 against the Carolina Panthers.
