Cleveland Browns’ fifth-round rookie quarterback may have gotten the start on Friday night by default, but he was so impressive in the 30-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in Charlotte that even King James himself had to remark.
“That young (man) looking good out there,” James posted on X. “Keep going UP!!! HEAD down on the grind and HEAD high to the most high.”
James followed that up with, “And I don’t wanna hear that ‘It’s only preseason’ bs. Cause if he was out there not going in y’all would be on his (butt) about it! So give credit and grace lames.”

Sanders, who got the nod under center because fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel and veteran Kenny Pickett are both hampered by injuries, completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns while showing complete command of the Cleveland offense.
Both of Sanders’ touchdown passes came in the first half and were both to Kaden Davis as the Browns scored 30 unanswered points after falling behind 7-0 early in the game.
After a historic fall in this year’s NFL Draft, when the Colorado quarterback was expected by some to be a top five pick, Sanders slipped all the way to the fifth round before being selected by Cleveland.
He was the second quarterback taken by the Browns after they picked Oregon signal caller Gabriel in the third round.
He had yet to take any snaps in training camp or the offseason with the first team, but on Friday, you wouldn’t have known it, and it’s possible he soars up the depth chart.
“I honestly don’t know and don’t care,” Sanders said when asked if he thinks he should move up the depth chart. “I did some good and bad. I know moving forward I won’t do the same mistakes twice, whatever the decision is.”
The Browns will next visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday at Lincoln Financial Field in the second preseason matchup of the year for both teams.
