The NFL honored Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield as the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for Week 17. Mayfield’s standout performance included five touchdown passes and just five incompletions in a dominant 48-14 win over the Buccaneers’ opponent.
Mayfield’s impressive performance was amplified when facing blitzes, as evidenced by NFL Next Gen Stats. He completed 12 of 12 passes for 90 yards against the blitz, with all five of his touchdowns coming in such situations.
Mayfield’s impressive performance has earned him his sixth conference Player of the Week award, with two of those coming in the last three weeks. This achievement marks his fourth Player of the Week award with a different team, having previously won with the Los Angeles Rams, Cleveland Browns, and now the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
His Week 17 heroics propelled the Buccaneers back into first place in the NFC South, while also marking a significant milestone in his career.
According to Elias Sports, Mayfield’s impressive stats make him just the fifth player in NFL history to achieve such a feat, alongside Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, and Deshaun Watson.
