Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David saw his 2024 season come to a close with the Commanders’ game-winning field goal on Sunday night. As he heads into the offseason, David is remaining tight-lipped about his future plans, leaving uncertainty surrounding the possibility of a 2025 season.
After completing a one-year contract, Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David wrapped up his 13th NFL season with an impressive display of productivity. His regular-season stats included 122 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one interception, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery, with David starting every game. He also made a notable contribution in the playoff loss to Washington, recording eight tackles and a sack. However, when asked about his plans for the future, David expressed caution, stating that he’s not yet ready to make a decision about returning for another season.
“No, not really,” David stated via Pewter Report. “Right now I’m just going to take this on, go home. Regroup a little bit, see where my head is at then and go from there. No exact timeline. All I’m going to do is go home and get my mind off of football. And if I come back, I’ll have a decision by then.”
David continued,
“A lot to think about man, a lot to think about. You know I’m just so [disappointed]. You know, just go ahead and go home, be with my little girl, be a dad, and go from there.”
Lavonte David’s performance on the field didn’t indicate that the Buccaneers would be eager to part ways with him. However, before any discussions about a potential new contract can begin, David must first demonstrate a strong desire to commit to another season, including the rigorous preparation and dedication required to play at a high level.
David has been a stalwart at the linebacker position for the Bucs for over a decade. He, like the fanbase has seen the worst of times, and best of times. The team could really use another year out if David as they already need to draft a linebacker even if he does decide to play in 2025.
