Buccaneers Need To Retain Starting OG Bredeson

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a savvy move by signing Ben Bredeson to a one-year deal, and it paid off in a big way. Bredeson, on the cusp of his 27th birthday, proved to be a stalwart presence on the Bucs’ offensive line, starting all 17 games in the past season.

The Buccaneers’ success with Ben Bredeson may be short-lived, as they risk losing him to free agency this offseason. According to CBS Sports writer Pete Prisco, Bredeson ranks No. 34 among this year’s free agents, making him a coveted target for other teams.

Via Pete Prisco,

“This 27-year-old started at left guard in his only season with the Bucs and did a nice job. He signed a one-year deal with Tampa Bay last season and started all 17 games. He will have a good market.”

Given the challenge of finding a suitable replacement, it would be wise for the Buccaneers to prioritize re-signing Ben Bredeson to a long-term contract, ensuring continuity and stability on their offensive line.

The BR Rub

As mentioned in an earlier article, the Buccaneers are already potentially losing a quality backup lineman in Robert Hainsey to free agency, so losing a starter as well would be a huge hit. If this happens it not only affects the team’s draft strategy but who they might target in free agency. Hopefully the front office sees the value of keeping the starting o-line intact. If not, expect them to address this in free agency or on draft day.
