Buccaneers Reddick Puts The Optional In OTAs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wasted no time addressing their pass rush needs in free agency, making Haason Reddick their first signing. The former Eagles and Jets pass rusher joins the team, but fans will have to be patient before seeing him in action.

Buccaneers Reddick Puts The Optional In OTAs

Haason Reddick skipped the Buccaneers’ first day of OTAs, as the team’s new pass rusher opted out of the optional practices. He’ll make his Tampa Bay debut later, after signing a one-year, $14 million contract this offseason.

Several established Buccaneers players, including Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Tristan Wirfs, and Vita Vea, also skipped the first day of OTAs. Unlike these veterans, who are familiar with the team’s system, new signing Haason Reddick faces an adjustment period after holding out and underperforming with the Jets last season.

When asked about Reddick’s status after the first day of OTAs, Head Coach Todd Bowles gave a brief response.

“I’m sure one of these days we’ll see him.”

Reddick has two more chances to join OTAs this week, on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Buccaneers will resume practices next week for Days 4-6. While Reddick’s absence might be a non-issue, his history with the Jets last season will likely keep fans watching closely.

While not ideal, this isn’t a reason to hit the panic button… yet. With that said, this isn’t exactly the best look for Reddick following last year.
