Buccaneers’ Rookie Shilo Sanders Takes Shot at Shedeur’s Legal Drama

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers only made five selections in the 2025 NFL Draft, but those selections are expected to make a big impact right out of the gate for their new team. Beyond that, the Buccaneers also brought some undrafted free agents to town, with former Colorado Buffaloes safety Shilo Sanders highlighting that group.

Sanders, of course, is the older brother of Shedeur Sanders, who got selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2025 draft. Shedeur found himself in some trouble last week when he got a speeding ticket for driving 101 mph in a 60 mph zone, which led Shilo to take a playoff jab at the situation.

The Sanders brothers drew quite a bit of attention during the 2025 draft due to their falls down the board. While Shilo was expected to be a Day 3 pick if he got selected at all, Shedeur entered the draft expecting to come off the board in the first round. Instead, he ended up falling all the way to the fifth round before the Browns traded up to pick him.

In Tampa Bay, Shilo is competing for a roster spot. While that seems unlikely to crack the initial 53-man squad, he could stick around with the Buccaneers on their practice squad, which is probably his most realistic path forward. In 2024, Shilo racked up 67 tackles, two passes batted, one sack, one forced fumble, and a touchdown. If he can figure things out in the pros, he could become a key contributor in the secondary for the Bucs.

Shedeur, on the other hand, is competing for Cleveland’s starting quarterback gig, although he’s not exactly helping his case by getting into trouble off the field. Shilo recently took a playful jab at his brother in a video uploaded on his YouTube channel, as he said he needs to watch out for aggressive drivers like Shedeur while walking around the city, even though they are in two completely different areas.

“I know we out here in Tampa, we got to be careful crossing the street, especially if Shedeur is out here,” Shilo said in his new food tour series on his YouTube page.

Undrafted rookies always face long odds to stick around with their team, and the same is true for Shilo with the Buccaneers. However, there may be room for him to wiggle his way into a roster spot, as Tampa Bay isn’t exactly flush with safety help. Antoine Winfield Jr. is one of the best safeties in the league, but Christian Izien isn’t exactly guaranteed to hold onto his starting job heading into 2025.

After putting together a strong body of work during OTAs and mandatory minicamp, Shilo has put himself in a decent spot heading into training camp. If he can stand out in the eyes of his coaches, and stay out of the sort of trouble Shedeur has found himself in with the Browns, who knows, maybe he could end up shocking the world and finding a way to crack the Buccaneers 53-man roster.
