The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be at a crossroads with their receiver room as Chris Godwin is a free agent, and Mike Evans is fighting father time.
While it has been reported that the Buccaneers will do whatever it takes to re-sign Godwin, there is a world in which the franchise and its Pro Bowl receiver part ways.
That would mean offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard would be short on firepower with Evans and then second-year receiver Jalen McMillan as Baker's two main options.
But in Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft, the Bucs select a run-after-the-catch merchant in Arizona star Tetairoa McMillan.
"McMillan could go earlier in Round 1, but Tampa Bay would be a perfect landing spot," Jeremiah writes. "Chris Godwin is due to become a free agent, and Mike Evans can’t play forever, can he?"
The latest buzz is that McMillan will go far earlier than No. 19 ( Bucs first pick), but if he does fall, Tampa Bay would be wise to select him.
A big-bodied receiver who boasts the strength and elusiveness in the open field to make countless defenders miss plus due to his big frame (6'5"), McMillian is a constant matchup nightmare for defenses, particularly in the red zone.
With Evans already taking a lot of the defense's focus, if McMillan can take a step forward in his rookie year, along with his namesake Jalen, the Buccaneers could have quite the potent trio in the passing game to complement Bucky Irving and the run game.
The Bucs have a host of needs, but if McMillan falls to No. 19, we imagine that Todd Bowles will be quick to put the card in.
