New Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard has a tough task trying to improve an offense that was one of the best in football last season.
As the passing game coordinator under Liam Coen, Grizzard now gets his shot to run the show. While some might see it as a daunting task to take over one of the highest-scoring offenses in football and a unit that was superb at running the football, Josh is up for the task.
"I'm fired up," Grizzard said, revealing his emotion over his promotion. "You guys know the foundation that's in place. We didn't come here to go to the playoffs and lose a home game, so we're trying to take it to the next level [and] try to bring a championship back to Tampa, and I'm fired up to be here and try to lead this unit down the road."
The Buccaneers under Coen averaged 29.5 points per game (ranks fourth), and Baker Mayfield had the best season of his career, and Grizzard played a role in that.
Mayfield threw for 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdowns, so Grizzard will now be tasked with improving what was a good offense in 2024. But how?
“At the end of the day, we want to be physical because the trenches win," Grizzard said. "When you're able to run the ball and you're able to press on a defense for four quarters that's what wins ball games. We also want to be multiple could be a week where we need to throw the ball more we need to run the ball more.”
So the Buccaneers will move forward with Grizzard, who will no doubt take what Coen built and improve on it as Tampa Bay looks to hit the ground running in the offseason.
Change doesn't always mean bad; it just means different, and Grizzard is fired up to implement his own style on this Buccaneers offense.
