Bucs Offensive Ranking Not a ‘Fluke’ Entering 2025 NFL Season

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense blossomed into an elite unit under offensive coordinator Lian Koen in 2024 and managed to retain their entire starting lineup entering the upcoming season.

One NFL analyst believes there isn’t going to be a significant dropoff for Baker Mayfield and this offense entering the 2025 NFL season.

Bucs’ Offense Ranked Third By PFN Entering 2025 NFL Season

Kyle Soppe of Pro Football & Sports Network gave the improved Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense some love when he ranked them behind just the Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens entering the upcoming 2025 NFL season.

Soppe wrote, “Baker Mayfield posted his best Offense+ grade (92.2) ever to earn the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a third-place finish for the season, something that speaks to the depth of the talent in this league. In fact, that was a top-10 score in our database as a whole and a mere 0.9 points behind their 2021 showing, when Tom Brady and Co. led the NFL that season.”

Mayfield was outstanding in his first year under Liam Koen with 4,500 passing yards and 41 touchdown passes to go with 378 rushing yards and three scores in 2024. Unfortunately, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft will once again have to play under another new offensive coordinator in 2025 with Koen departing for the head coaching position in Jacksonville.

Soppe added, “Just a year ago, Tampa Bay was coming off a season in which it ranked 22nd in this metric. If you need context, that was behind the juggernaut known as the Las Vegas Raiders. Life comes at you fast in the NFL, and there are no signs of last year’s success being a fluke.”

Another thing that is not a fluke is the production of Mike Evans, who has posted more than 1,000 yards receiving in 11 straight years to start his NFL career.

Is Emeka Egbuka the Key to Making This Offense the Best Group in the NFL in 2025?

Evans may be getting a bit long in the tooth by NFL standards, but the Buccaneers decided to add more talent to a receiver room that already features Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan by selecting Ohio State WR Emeka Egbuka at No. 19 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Bucs dealt with major depth issues at receiver when both Evans and Godwin got injured against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7 of last season. The addition of the versatile Egbuka feels like an upgrade to McMillan while providing an insurance policy for Godwin while he continues to rehab from his dislocated ankle.

The Bucs revamped rushing attack also shined last season with Bucky Irving having an outstanding rookie campaign.

Soppe concluded, “In fact, one could argue that, given Bucky Irving’s sparkling advanced profile as a rookie, the Bucs have more room for improvement than the other handful of teams in this top tier.”

The offensive line is formidable with Tristan Wirfs, Graham Barton, and Luke Goedeke up front — which should make this rushing attack with Irving, Rachaad White, and Sean Tucker productive again in 2025.

Ultimately, there are some questions about how this offense will perform under new offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard.

Yet, the Bucs running it back with their entire offensive unit while adding a prospect like Egbuka certainly makes this group with a high ceiling entering the 2025 NFL season.
