Bucs Select Chris Godwin Replacement In Latest Mock

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might have a few key decisions to make this offseason, with the future of receiver Chris Godwin, who is a unrestricted free agent, murky at best.

Plus, Godwin will be coming off that nasty ankle injury, so there could be a thought of the Buccaneers trying to get some cover for the 28-year-old.

And in CBS Sports' latest mock draft, that's exactly what they do, selecting Mizzouri receiver Luther Burden III with the 19th pick.

"Luther Burden III would be a luxury even if Chris Godwin departs given the play of Jalen McMillan," CBS Sports writes. "However, if offensive coordinator Liam Coen returns, then the offense is going to be relied upon to get them back to the playoffs next year."

Burden III excels after the catch, which, given how Liam Coen likes his offense to roll, would suit the receiver well. He can also line up anywhere across the formation, which will give Coen, or whoever is calling plays in 2025, some neat options as to where to deploy Burden III.

He totaled 1,212 yards and nine touchdowns in 2023 but couldn't replicate that in 2024, having 676 yards and six touchdowns, but the talent is there for all to see.

A dynamic receiver who usually plays in the slot, getting Burden III out in space with quick passes to utilize his ability in space is crucial to take advantage of his talents.

Not the biggest physically, but in the right system, he could become quite the weapon.
