Bucs' Tez Johnson Has Scary 'Kryptonite' Message For Rival NFL Teams
The NFL Draft is often centered on the first two rounds with all the glitz and glamour, but for most draft hopefuls, it's an anxious wait to hear their name called.
And for Oregon receiver Tez Johnson, he had to wait until the seventh round when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected him, meaning his NFL dream was finally realized.
But watching player after player be selected when you feel you are worthy of being taken can be tough for players to endure, and for Tez, he's going to make the teams that passed on him pay for their sins.
“When I answered the phone, I was like, 'What took them so long?" Johnson said. “Obviously it's a blessing, I'm excited to get there, immediately thought of my boy Bucky [Irving] as soon as I got the call. 31 teams, we going to be there kryptonite the whole time. So it's going to be crazy experience, I can't wait to get there, I'm excited, got a few of my buddies down there with Jay McMillan. So we got some really good weapons to use for Baker Mayfield for sure.”
Johnson now comes to a Buccaneers offense that is brimming with receiver talent as Emeka Egbuka was drafted in the first round to go with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Jalen McMillan.
That is an embarrassment of riches for Baker Mayfield.
As for Tez, he's coming off back-to-back seasons of 10 receiving touchdowns and at least 800 yards, which is nothing to sneeze at.
The Buccaneers appear to have doubled down on getting the offense weapons, and in Johnson, they get a receiver who feels scorned that 31 other teams passed over him.
And that, my friends, is a powerful motivator.
