The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offseason is well underway after their season ended a few weeks ago in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
After doing so much good work in the second half of the season, the Bucs came undone against the Washington Commanders thanks to a last-second field goal by Zane Gonzalez, which saw the season end at Raymond James Stadium.
But what goes on after that?
Head coach Todd Bowles has given a little insight into the quick nature of the business when talking on the Todd Bowles Show with Casey Phillips.
“It always stings, obviously the way you lose it doesn't matter, you lose and you're out, and you win you move on, you're doing so well, then next day it's you're saying goodbye for a couple weeks to the guys and that that's always a different kind of emotion,” Bowles said. “You got to take a while and let it sink in, and as the days go by and as the process goes by, you start to re-evaluate and readjust and get your mind right. It's a load off because you can sleep a little better but everything else is still going through your mind fast, so it's going to take some time.”
The Buccaneers will no doubt be going through their roster evaluation and a host of other things as the curtain comes down on yet another NFL season.
With offensive coordinator Liam Coen a hot head coaching candidate, the Buccaneers might have to be looking for a third coordinator in three years for Baker Mayfield, with the Jacksonville Jaguars showing interest in Coen.
Exactly who returns and who doesn't isn't known right now, but Bowles allowed fans a peek behind the curtain at the sometimes brutal nature of football.
One day, you're in a playoff game; the next, you're saying goodbye to players you've built relationships with over the year.
