While Tom Brady seemingly got heated up about Baker Mayfield’s comments a couple of weeks ago, Cam Newton was more neutral about it.
Mayfield implied on the 11th episode of the “Casa de Klub ” podcast that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers felt less stress and more fun after the seven-time Super Bowl champion left the team and retired. Many thought that his comment was a shot at Brady, who used to be the Buccaneers quarterback.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion himself clapped back at the current Buccaneers quarterback during Fox Sports’ broadcast of the Bucs’ game against the Philadelphia Eagles, saying that he thought “stressful” was not having any Super Bowl rings, and that he would have taken his kids to Disneyland instead if he wanted to have fun. Bill Belichick supported Brady’s statement, while Mayfield later said that they took his comment out of context.
Cam Newton, a former Carolina Panthers quarterback, didn’t take any side. He spoke on his “ 4th & 1” podcast, mentioning that there was truth in what Brady said, but Mayfield should also not feel “intimidated” by Brady and that he should continue doing things his way.
“Brady’s flex is a different flex… We see Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, look at the NFL on Fox, that’s him, and then you got seven times Super Bowl champion. There’s not another man on this planet that has those types of accolades. So, yeah, my guy, nobody else could even talk like that,” Cam Newton prefaced his thoughts.
“Baker, you do you, bro. Brady is covering the game as he should. Two things can be true. Brady (is) gonna get his comments off and I don’t think Brady intended it to be disrespectful, but it’s facts, it’s truth,” the former three-time Pro Bowler continued. “But also for, you know, Baker Mayfield, you shouldn’t feel intimidated for being who you are, by no stretch of the imagination, all right? Keep doing you bro, and winning.”
