In the eyes of many top analysts and fans, the Detroit Lions have become the most dominant team in the NFL and a sure-fire pick to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
The Philadelphia Eagles may have something to say about that, though.
Philadelphia trails Detroit by just a single game for the top seed in the NFC. The Eagles have won six straight games, and have mixed blowout victories with strong finishes against top teams on their schedule.
With the strong rushing attack of Saquon Barkley, and the elite defense led by defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, some analysts even believe the Eagles are the only team who can hang with Detroit.
“I didn’t see any team play on Sunday that could beat these guys,” ESPN's Mike Greenberg said of the Lions. “The only team I think in the entire NFC that can beat the Lions in the playoffs, played Thursday. I could see the Eagles beating the Lions. I think the Eagles, man for man, pound for pound, can match up with the Lions. I don’t think any other team in the NFC has any fighting chance.”
Detroit reached the NFC Title game last season and was just a quarter away from heading to the Super Bowl. The Eagles weren't exactly that good a year prior, but are two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance on their own.
With the 49ers struggling to remain afloat, and few other teams standing out, the NFC truly feels like a two-team race for the top spot now.
