Although Phaedra Parks didn’t ask for it, Cheryl Burke is weighing in with some advice for her run on Dancing with the Stars. She thinks Phaedra needs to focus less on winning and more on enjoying the process. Otherwise, she might lose her personality.
Now, it’s not like Phaedra has any shortage of personality. That’s why we fell in love with her on Real Housewives of Atlanta and why she keeps getting asked to appear on reality shows. However, Cheryl explained why DWTS is a different game.
Cheryl Burke has concerns about Phaedra Parks’ personality
The former DWTS pro spoke to People about Season 33 of the show. When talking about Phaedra, she said that the RHOA star might be too focused on winning and trying to make her partner happy. Instead, she should just be focused on her steps.

“She’s an entrepreneur. I hear her. I think it’s okay for other umbrellas of your life, but on this show, to think of solely about just wanting to win the Mirrorball is going to do the opposite,” Cheryl explained.
She continued, “I think it’s more about testing her being present, really taking this one step at a time and it’s all in the detail.”
According to Cheryl, she’s seen many celebrities come through the show with high hopes of snatching the trophy. Then, as the weeks go on, all of their pizazz starts to fade.
Cheryl added, “We know she’s got rhythm, we know she’s full of personality, but if she’s only focused on winning, she’s going to not have personality and you’re going to see it. I already see it.”
The fact that Cheryl “already sees it” is interesting considering only one episode has aired. In the Season 33 premiere, we saw Phaedra and Val Chmerkovskiy score a 19. It’s not perfect, but she did make us laugh every time they gave her the microphone. Clearly, Cheryl wasn’t impressed. She shared some final advice for Phaedra moving forward.
Cheryl said, “Dance as if it’s your last dance because you never know.”
Dancing with the Stars airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c on Disney+ and ABC.
