Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs played host to the Houston Texans in their first NFL playoff game of the year. The Chiefs entered the game as 9.5-point favorites (ESPN BET) to clinch a spot in the AFC Championship Game.
Coming into the game, Kansas City kicker Harrison Butker was tied with former Pittsburgh Steelers kick Gary Anderson for fourth on the NFL's all-time postseason field goals list with 32 apiece.
After a solid opening kickoff return, the Chiefs saw their first drive of the game stall out. It ended with a 32-yard field goal from Butker, giving Kansas City a 3-0 lead.
With the field goal, Butker now moves past Anderson and into sole possession of fourth place for the most postseason field goals of all time with 33.
The Chiefs Communications announced the news on X.
The only three other kickers with more field goals in the playoffs include NFL legend Adam Vinatieri (56), former New England Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski (41) and former Philadelphia Eagles kicker David Akers (39).
Butker has been with the Chiefs since the 2017 season and has been a part of all three of their Super Bowl runs. In Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles, the former Georgia Tech star even kicked the game-winning field goal with 11 seconds left. Safe to say, Butker already had an impressive postseason resume prior to this latest achievement.
The winner of the Chiefs and Texans matchup will move on to face the winner of the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens game in the conference championship.
