The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up for yet another tilt at a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes helping lead Andy Reid's team to a 15-1 record (sat Week 18), and he has gotten the AFC's No. 1 seed as well.
Now, with a week's rest, the Chiefs are again looming large this postseason, but Mahomes will be going up against a host of top-tier quarterbacks over the next few weeks.
Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen loom as the "big dogs" in the AFC, and then we have Jared Goff, Jalen Hurts, Jayden Daniels, and Matthew Stafford in the NFC.
So, there is ample quarterback talent in the postseason. CBS Sports has ranked all playoff quarterbacks, and to no one's surprise, Mahomes is sitting firmly at No. 1 given his outstanding playoff record.
"By his standards, Mahomes has been more scrappy than spectacular for two years and counting, relying primarily on late-game heroics, including as a scrambler, to give Kansas City an almost unbelievable win rate in tight contests," CBS Sports writes. "There's simply no way we can call him an underdog in January, however, as he enters with a Hall of Fame-worthy 15-3 career playoff record, vying for a record third straight Super Bowl trophy. He thrives in these moments under Andy Reid."
Once again, the Super Bowl in the AFC runs through Arrowhead Stadium, and it is looming as a daunting task to slay the Chiefs in their building, but that is what's in front of Jackson, Allen, and Co.
The Chiefs offense hasn't been the well-oiled machine over the past two seasons, yet they still find ways to win, largely thanks to Steve Spagnuolo's defense and Mahomes' ability to make "the" play when needed.
Having won back-to-back titles and now in a great position to at least get to the Super Bowl, Mahomes and the Chiefs have a genuine shot at history over the next month.
Doubt them at your peril.
