The Kansas City Chiefs want to improve their pass rush next season with just their front four. That is something the Chiefs struggled with all of last season.
The Chiefs would only get after the quarterback when they would send more than the opposing offense was blocking with. They will only get after the quarterback by sending the house as well. In 2025, the Chiefs want to get after the quarterback by only sending four.
The Chiefs have one of the best defensive players, if not the best one in the National Football League, with Chris Jones. Jones does his thing and gets after the quarterback. But when he gets double or triple-teamed, he needs someone else to win their matchup. That is something the Chiefs have not figured out. The Chiefs have not found someone who has benefited from playing alongside Jones.
Well, that can all change in 2025 because one veteran pass rusher has become available. Veteran defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was released earlier this week by the Carolina Panthers. Clowney can be a real option for the Chiefs to add to the defensive line. Clowney is on his back nine of his career, but can still be dominant for the Chiefs, especially playing on the same front as Jones.
"In 140 career games played, Clowney has recorded 58 sacks. While he turned 32 earlier this year, Clowney has recorded at least nine sacks in two out of the last four seasons. There are several teams that could be in the market for a veteran pass rusher at this point in the offseason. Let's take a look at a few," said Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports.
“I went to OTAs Day 1 and they kinda told me they weren’t expecting me to be there. I got a sense that they wanted me out of the building,” Clowney told The Athletic. “I was just like, ‘Y’all could’ve told me this back when I was coming in here during the offseason.’ I kinda had a sense, though. I’ve been around the game long enough to know, so I was OK.”
The Chiefs would have a much-improved defensive line if they add Clowney. This is one move to keep an eye on, it can be major for the Chiefs as they head into the 2025 season.
