The Kansas City Chiefs were projected by many to select a running back in the 2025 NFL Draft, but their inability to land on a player who couuld improve upon the Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt 1-2 punch until selecting Brashard Smith in the seventh round has many fans wondering if a trade is happening soon.
Despite the fact that the New York Jets plan to feature a very run-heavy offense centered around standout Breece Hall in the backfield, trade rumors continue to swirl as extension doubts start to creep in. Kansas City might be a good spot for him to get back on track.
In Sports Illustrated's Conor Orr's list of 100 bold predictions for the 2025 NFL season, two of them relate to the Kansas City backfield. Not only does Orr believe that the leading rusher for Kansas City in 2025 is not currently on the roster, but he believes the Jets will eventually look to move Hall while listing the Chiefs by name as a landing spot.
Chiefs once again linked to Jets running back Breece Hall via trade
Hall's 5.8 yards per carry rookie year and 1,585 yards from scrimmage sophomore year gave him tons of momentum, but after switching to an Aaron Rodgers-led offense that wanted to throw the ball as much as possible, Hall mustered just 4.2 yards per carry and failed to crack 1,000 yards on the ground.
WIth the Jets leaning on a run-heavy attack and having drafted Armand Membou to help execute this run-first vision, a trade seems unlikely. However, Aaron Glenn and new GM Darren Mougey are likely not going to be tied to very many players from the Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas era.
Flipping the Jets, who might not be able to extend Hall alongside Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson, a few draft picks could be enough to eventually change their mind.
Behind Kansas City's offensive line and alongside a Patrick Mahomes-led passing offense that will give him plenty of light boxes to take advantage of, Hall is the type of player Kansas City needs to acquire to both ward off the Bills and leapfrog back over the Eagles in the 2025 season.
