The Kansas City Chiefs addressed their offensive line woes early in free agency with the signing of Jaylon Moore on a two-year, $30 million deal.
The former San Francisco 49er comes to the Chiefs and will look to nail down a position that has become increasingly problematic for Patrick Mahomes, who was sacked a career-high 36 times in the regular season last year.
Moore comes to the Chiefs having been a bit-part player for the 49ers in his three seasons, and while the move does bring in another body, it doesn't exactly solidify what is one of the most important positions in football.
Brian Baldinger, who was speaking on NFL Network, is rather skeptical of the Chiefs' move to sign Moore.
“Kansas City has a blind spot at left tackle,” Baldinger said. “They went out and signed Jaylon Moore, he started nine games for San Francisco the last three years. They weren’t the same offense without Trent Williams manning that left tackle position. When I watch Jaylon, he’s got weaknesses that we see from the other guys, they paid him a lot of money to come in and be the starter and I’m not so sure that he can go there and lock that position down. I don’t know if this is anything more than a band-aid at this point.”
Such was the poor play from both Wanya Morris and Kingsley Suamataia last season that the Chiefs had to move Pro Bowl guard Joe Thuney out to tackle and have Mike Caliendo slot in at guard.
The results weren't flattering.
But at least a move has been made, and yes, Baldinger is skeptical on it right now, but the Chiefs clearly see something in Moore and think he can offer something more productive than those that have gone before him.
Is it a "band-aid" move?
