Chiefs Trade Proposal Hauls In NFC North Wideout After Bad News

The Kansas City Chiefs‘ potential WR1 for the upcoming season, Rashee Rice, was dealt a brutal blow on Thursday when he was sentenced to five years probation and a month in jail for his role in a car crash last year, as reported by Adam Schefter.

ESPN sources: A Dallas County judge just sentenced Chiefs WR Rashee Rice to five years probation and 30 days of jail time that can be served during those five years stemming for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 offseason.

As Schefter also notes, along with many other sources, the former second round pick will almost certainly serve a suspension at some point in this upcoming year.

This leaves the Chiefs, from a team standpoint, with a hole at a key position heading into the season.

Chiefs Receiving Corps Would Benefit From An Additional

The Chiefs’ receiving trio of Rice, former first round pick, Xavier Worthy, and speedster, Hollywood Brown, were expected to add another level to what has been a slightly stagnant passing game in Kansas City over the past couple of years, despite them reaching consecutive Super Bowls.

So it figures that KC may look to add another starting-caliber receiver to their mix; one who is experienced enough to make a difference straight away, but not an expensive burden on the cap for years to come. Particularly since the team has the second lowest amount of cap room in 2026, behind only AFC rivals, the Buffalo Bills.

A name that would make a lot of sense is Packers wideout, Romeo Doubs.

Why Romeo Doubs Would Make A Lot Of Sense For The Chiefs

Doubs has been looked at as the possible “odd man out” in Green Bay after the team drafted Matthew Golden and Savion Williams in the first and third rounds of this year’s NFL draft.

And being on his rookie contract, he would not add unnecessary expense to their current cap situation, with him set to count for just $3.4 million against the salary cap in 2025.

Given he has just one year left, he would provide ideal single-season cover for Rice, who could well have played out the totality of his suspension by the time Doubs’ contract expires at the end of the season.

On Doubs end, this also feels like a win. Whilst other trade ideas have the former Nevada product going to the likes of Tennessee or Jacksonville, KC already has a cacophony of offensive weapons in the form of Worthy, Travis Kelce and Isiah Pacheco – yet he would come in as the immediate front-runner to occupy one of the three starting wideout slots.

Green Bay would not give up their former leading receiver for pennies, but with only one year left and numerous other options on the roster, the Chiefs could very well get a good deal from their NFC counterparts in acquiring a solid 2025 replacement for Rice.
