Chiefs Vets Helping Xavier Worthy Prepare For Playoff Debut

Kansas City Chiefs rookie receiver Xavier Worthy is about to play in his first postseason game, and naturally, it will be a big moment for the speed merchant.

Having started his first season slowly, Worthy has come on strong in his last seven games (minus Week 18 vs. Denver), posting 40+ yards in each and developing a good wavelength with Patrick Mahomes.

But that was in the regular season. Playoffs are a different beast altogether, and Xavier will be counted on to make plays just as he has done all year.

Chiefs Vets Helping Xavier Worthy Prepare For Playoff Debut

Being in your first playoff game can be a little daunting, but Xavier is keeping it business as usual, thanks to the Chiefs' ample number of veterans who have been here before. ... and who are taking him inside what's about to come.

“Just treating it like every other game,” Worthy said. “I got a lot of vets in the room, so they kind of just make it easy, just take it week by week and treat it like a regular game.”

But will there be nerves?

“Nah, I'll be all right,” Worthy added with a smile.

With the Chiefs fresh off a bye week, by the time they take the field against the Houston Texans, it will be over three weeks since their last meaningful game.

Some have suggested that rust might be an issue for Kansas City, but let's not forget, this isn't the first rodeo for head coach Andy Reid, not to mention the host of veterans who have been here before.

Worthy will no doubt be itching to get out on the field and make an impact against the Texans, and he'll have savvy veterans by his side to keep his emotions in check as the Chiefs begin their assault for a third successive Super Bowl.
