Cleveland Browns: Joe Flacco Doesn’t Hold Back About Shedeur Sanders’ Presence

Veteran NFL quarterback Joe Flacco is still looking to make waves. Having turned 40 years old last January, Flacco believes he can still do it at the top level, as he signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns in the offseason with clear expectations: to be the team’s No. 1 quarterback. While Flacco is currently widely considered the Browns’ QB1, there is still competition for him in the offseason from his much younger teammates.

The Browns selected two quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL draft in Dillon Gabriel of the Oregon Ducks and Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes. There is also Kenny Pickett, who comes over to Cleveland following his trade from the Philadelphia Eagles..

Flacco loves the presence of Sanders amid Cleveland Browns offseason

It’s been a while since Flacco, who won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens, last was in a QB competition –not since his second year in high school, to be exact, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. Nevertheless, he appears to love his time alongside his much younger QB teammates amid the battle for the QB1 role.

“Shedeur has been great. I mean, he’s a lot of fun to be around in those meeting rooms,” Flacco said,. “I think so far, there’s been at least once in the meeting room that he’s made me crack a smile, and that’s what it’s all about. You know, he’s a young guy trying to learn some football and come out here and practice well and do those things. And like I said, he’s been a lot of fun. I probably wasn’t too far away from playing against his dad, and now I’m playing with him.”

In the 2024 NFL season, Flacco played for eight games with the Indianapolis Colts, passing for 1,761 yards and 12 touchdowns with seven interceptions.
