Matt LaFleur was able to rack up 11 wins in the 2024 NFL season, but there were major frustrations for the Cheese Heads when it came to their divisional games.
The Green Bay Packers still made it to the Playoffs, but their Super Bowl ambitions were cut short at the very first hurdle against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Dan Orlovsky is expecting a lot from the Packers’ offense this season, having been impressed with their 2025 NFL Draft.
Big changes have been made behind the scenes in Wisconsin, with Ed Policy becoming the new President of the Packers as the organization looks to end its Super Bowl drought.
Despite being impressed with the structure of the Packers, Colin Cowherd has admitted there is something which is really puzzling him at Lambeau Field.
Cowherd’s concerns even have the presenter drawing some parallels between the Packers and the Indianapolis Colts.
Ironically, Cowherd has tipped the Packers to win the NFC North after stating he likes what he has seen from running-back Josh Jacobs.
But Cowherd thinks the lack of elite players at the disposal of LaFleur is a major concern as the Packers could lack identity on the field.
Speaking on The Herd, Cowherd has suggested the Packers are in danger of becoming the Colts in the sense of not having the star quality needed to become more than a well-run team.
“Green Bay is one of the mystery teams in the league because we know they’re well run, we like their coach, no crazy owner, Mark Murphy is super bright, they draft and develop well,” he said.
“But they are the mystery team in the league because I can look at Washington and say: ‘Who are their best five players? And point to guys.’ Green Bay’s best five players, I love Josh Jacobs, Kenny Clark is really good.
“Have they become the Colts? Where we know they’re well run, we know they’ve got a good roster, but do they have stars? When you look at Philly, Detroit, and the Rams, we can pinpoint four/five elite guys. So, my take is, what are the Packers apart from well run?”
The Packers allowed Jaire Alexander to leave last month, which may well be adding to the concerns Cowherd holds over the number of elite players on the roster.
Although Cowherd did not name quarterback Jordan Love in the list of elite players he believes the Packers have in their roster, he did praise the 26-year-old about one thing he has witnessed this off-season.
Love has been handed wide-receiver Matthew Golden during the Draft in what could be a huge boost for the Packers’ offense this season.
The California-born star has recently shared his marriage this summer through his social media platforms.
Although it is an off-field development, Cowherd has admitted it is something which he loves to see from a starting quarterback.
“Jordan Love, congrats to him, just got married,” said Cowherd.
“Good for him, I like my quarterbacks to be married. I know that sounds ridiculous, but I like my mature quarterbacks to be grounded.”
Love has slammed critics over his step-back criticism ahead of what is going to be an interesting season for $55m leader of the Packers.
