Teen Mom star Cory Wharton has confirmed that The Next Chapter has been put on an indefinite “pause.” A lot has been going on this season with the kids turning sixteen and couples trying for babies. So, was a reason given for the pause? Keep reading for further details.

Cory Wharton Confirms Teen Mom Put On Indefinite ‘Pause’

A short time ago, Amber Portwood shared that she had gotten Teen Mom canceled. She has been going off the rails lately in live videos and saying anything and everything she wants. Amber has not been painted in a good light, and it looks like she only cares about herself and not her daughter, Leah. Therefore, Leah wants to be adopted by her stepmother, Kristina. No one was sure if Amber had any real power to cancel the long-running MTV reality series, but now, Cory Wharton has an update, and it’s not good.

Cory had been on the series since 2018, along with his ex and baby mama, Cheyenne Floyd. They share a daughter, Ryder, but he has since moved on with Taylor Selfridge. The couple shares two daughters, whereas Cheyenne has gotten married and welcomed a little boy. This season, she has been trying to conceive another baby, but it has been far from easy. Unfortunately, their journey may be over, as Cory shared on his social media. He explained that the cast has not gotten the green light to film another season:

“ … Which means, we’re waiting to let the higher ups figure out all what they gotta do and tell us, ‘Hey, we’re filming again.'”

Cory Wharton also said that he did not want to “put the bad energy out there,” but he started to question things even more recently. What made him think something was fishy was when his Teen Mom co-stars Mackenzie McKee and Briana DeJesus appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show.

The reason this struck him so much was that Mackenzie shared that she and her fiance, Khesanio Hall, were expecting twins. Cory believed that would’ve been a great storyline to follow. Therefore, he could not believe it was shared on a talk show:

“ … What a great way to start the season, [Mackenzie’s] pregnant. I mean, they could just start [the season] with her already having the babies, ya know? See, I’m already thinking storylines and whatnot. That’s because I’ve been in this game too long.”

Is It Really Over?

So, is Teen Mom really over, or is it just staying on an indefinite hiatus? Cory Wharton did not want to say the series was officially done, but he did have an idea about what could happen with it. He stated that if MTV drops the show, it could get picked up by a streaming service such as Paramount Plus. That is where fans can watch old episodes of the show, so it makes sense. However, Cory is not thinking too far ahead:

“I think we’re a far ways from that, but right now, we are on pause and we’ll see.”

If the show does come back for another season, Amber Portwood has made it clear she is done. She maintained that she was not fired. Rather, she does not want to participate in the reality series going forward. Time will tell what is next for the show. Yet, fans will likely want to see what happens next with the kids and the moms. Some of them will start applying to college, so ending Teen Mom after that happens might be the right time.
