Cowboys' Micah Parsons roasts Giants over Saquon Barkley decision

Almost immediately after Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley delivered one of the top highlight-reel moments of the ongoing season against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past weekend, fans posting on social media once again ripped the New York Giants for letting Barkley reach free agency after the 2023 campaign.

Cowboys' Parsons roasts Giants over Barkley decision

During the latest edition of his "The Edge" program, Dallas Cowboys pass-rusher Micah Parsons echoed such fans while speaking about the fellow former Penn State Nittany Lions star.

"People can say this is vintage Saquon, but this was always who Saquon was," Parsons explained, as shared by Christian Arnold of the New York Post. "Since I’ve known him at Penn State until now, I knew this was what he was capable of. For Saquon, this is a blessing in disguise just off the strength of, people are seeing what you’re capable of when people appreciate you."

From last winter through this fall, numerous reporters and analysts have defended Giants general manager Joe Schoen for not signing Barkley or any veteran running back to a lucrative contract. While the 2024 Eagles would've been an advertised playoff team with or without Barkley on the roster, the Giants are a rebuilding franchise that could be roughly two months away from hitting a figurative reset button.

Barkley and the Eagles ultimately agreed to a three-year, $37.75M contract that could be worth up to $46.75M with $26M fully guaranteed.

Giants fans understandably aren't thrilled that Barkley is thriving with a hated division rival. According to the StatMuse website, he heads into Week 10 ranked second in the NFL with 1,071 scrimmage yards for the season. Barkley, thus far, has accumulated six rushing touchdowns to go along with a pair of receiving scores.

As of Tuesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed Barkley second among the betting favorites at +200 odds to win the Offensive Player of the Year Award for the campaign.

"The Giants did not appreciate him," Parsons added about Barkley, "and now the rest of the league is facing the consequences of the Giants' stupidity. This is always who he was. ...I mean what more can you say? The guy has been dynamic. He’s been worth the money and more. Let’s just say thank you to the Giants for their stupidity."

6-2 Philadelphia next plays at a 3-5 Cowboys side that's a mess for multiple reasons this coming Sunday. On Tuesday, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Eagles as 7.5-point favorites for that matchup.
