Cowboys QB Dak Prescott's claim about Eagles seems delusional

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott suggested they could be the Philadelphia Eagles' biggest competition next season. Is he joking?

The Eagles just won Super Bowl LIX, beating the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22. The Cowboys, meanwhile, went 7-10 and missed the playoffs in 2024.

Dak Prescott's claim about Eagles seems delusional

However, Prescott said the Eagles aren't a far better team than the Cowboys.

"I feel like we've competed with the Eagles and beat them for the most part," Prescott said Tuesday, per The Athletic's Jon Machota. "I don't want to say, 'Check our record' when the other guy is holding the trophy, right? So, credit to them. They've earned it, and they deserve it by all means, but yeah, very close."

To his credit, Prescott has consistently beaten the Eagles throughout his career. In nine seasons with the Cowboys, he has a 9-4 record against Philadelphia, according to Stathead.

Prescott suffered a season-ending hamstring tear in Week 9 in 2024, missing nine games. When the QB stayed healthy in 2023, the Cowboys went 12-5 and won the NFC East, but he also had a much better supporting cast.

In the 2024 season, the Cowboys finished 27th in the league in rushing yards (100.3) and second to last in points allowed (27.5). Dallas may be unable to fill these holes when free agency starts on March 12 at 4 p.m. ET. Spotrac projects Dallas will be $2.38M over the cap.

A coaching change could compound Dallas' issues. Brian Schottenheimer recently replaced Mike McCarthy. The longtime offensive assistant has no head-coaching experience, so it wouldn't be stunning if he flops.

As of Tuesday, FanDuel Sportsbook gives Philadelphia the best odds (+600) to win Super Bowl LX. Prescott's optimism seems commendable, but he and the Cowboys should admit they're probably not in a position to challenge the Eagles and may be in a rebuilding year.
