Between the NFL and college football, there's no shortage of quarterback comparisons tossed out by analysts, fans and even other players.

However, comparisons to a few NFL quarterbacks stand head-and-shoulders above the rest. Players such as Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson and Aaron Rodgers are among the golden standard.

That list is what makes former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Troy Aikman's recent comments about Dak Prescott so noteworthy. The NFL analyst and Hall-of-Famer turned more than a few heads when he compared Prescott to not one but two of the names mentioned above.

During an interview with Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket, Aikman praised Prescott's ability to elevate the play of his wide receivers and pass-catchers. He referenced Prescott's ball placement, comparing it to Mahomes and Rodgers.

Via The Dallas Morning News:

“A quarterback can put the ball in places [where] you don’t have to be a great receiver in order to be able to make the play, or you’re able to get into plays that gives your team the best chance," Aikman explained

"We’ve seen it from Patrick Mahomes. We’ve seen it from Aaron Rodgers. Over the years. We’ve seen it from a lot of guys. I believe we’ve seen it from Dak as well."

Prescott had a bit of Mahomes magic in the Cowboys' Week 5 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. After an up-and-down start to the night that included three turnovers (two in the red zone), the three-time Pro Bowler stepped up late in the game. He led two fourth-quarter scoring drives and threw the game-winning touchdown with 20 seconds remaining.

Aikman mentioning Prescott's skillset alongside Mahomes and Rodgers is the highest form of praise. The ability to raise the play of teammates has always been one of Prescott's strengths and certainly played a part in the Cowboys' decision to make him the NFL's highest-paid player.
